Riding stables in Friesland
A hall to ride horses in is often dark with only some roof lights with no view. This riding school had existed for years without a riding hall. But when it rained very hard or was very cold, or just very hot, a bit of shelter would be nice. We made a minimal riding hall. Basically nothing more than a roof and a boarding. In between is filled with transparent corrugated plastic sheet. Even when you sit on a horse inside, you still have contact with the outside and the overwhelmingly infinite Frisian countryside. The existing canteen and stables remained and were linked to the new riding hall with an intermediate section. The rear facade of the riding school is a climbing wall. The building is also very sustainable, no artificial light is needed for riding during the day and the water from the roof is collected in a basement and serves as drinking and washing water for the horses. The front, facing the road and south, has been given sun protection with an overhang in the point of the ridge beam.
