20 March 2014

On 20 March, Jasper de Haan was part of the jury for the Bauhaus monument in Belgrade along with Alfred Jacoby and Ivan Kucina. A joy to work in Belgrade's magnificent architecture faculty. Built between 1925 and 1931, and designed by two Serbian architects - Nikola Nestorović and Branko Tanazović.

Bauhaus in Belgrade

From more than 25 entries, we chose the winner, Bojana Bjelic, who had designed a beautiful swing in a curious existing building, which had already caught our eye on the way from the airport to the city,

This brutalist "West gate" or also called "Genex Tower" was built in 1977 and designed by Mihajlo Mitrovic. Bojana lets people swing in a giant hammock in the open space between the two towers. Fun, ingenuity and innovation we thought was Bauhaus all over the place.

Then another lecture in a fantastic Eastern Bloc hall.

And after dinner a quick look at a church by Joze Plecnik, which looks more like a lighthouse. Sleep and quickly back to Rotterdam
