Workshop Deltaport
Jasper de Haan, together with Theo Hauben, spent a week guiding a group of international students from the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam during the winter workshop led by Jeanne van Heeswijk with the aim of making the Deltaport area, around Zwijndrecht and Heerjansdam, more attractive for cycling tourism.
It was raining, the snow was still thawing, it was windy, it was cold. In short, real weather for cycling through the polder. The students from southern European parts had a particularly tough time. But after first collecting and analysing about 100 mentalmaps drawn by inhabitants of the island, the real work could begin.
It soon became clear where things were heading.
After making some trial set-ups with a mobile "café" on a number of bridges, the students created a bicycle bar that could be set up at tactical locations along cycling routes.
This way, cycling in the area could gain attractiveness.
