tentoonstelling in Roodkapje
Als onderdeel van de Route du Nord vond in Roodkapje in Rotterdam een driedaagse tentoonstelling plaats met werk van beeldend kunstenaars Samantha Thole, Mette Sterre en Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson. Tijdens de opening was er een performance van Samantha Thole en Mette Sterre, waarin een modderbad-basin een belangrijke rol speelde. Jasper de Haan | architecten hebben meegeholpen het modderbad ontwerpen en de tentoonstelling in te richten.
In het modderbad werd en Golem tot leven gewekt die zich later tegen zijn maker keerde. Of in Thole haar eigen woorden:
"For their latest performance London based artist Mette Sterre and Rotterdam based artist Samantha Thole collaborate in mixing Dadaism with Jewish mysticism, aligning contemporary art with magic. In “Double Helix (à quatre mains)”
Sterre and Thole use rhyme and rhythm to animate the inanimate, as the power of creation is addressed through mudwrestling by candlelight. Based upon their earlier collaboration and following the title of this exhibition (object versus Subject) Mette and Thole invented a brand new performance in which life is given to a lifeless object, to become the creators’ servant/ subject. In their construction this subject objects. The mystic Jewish Legend of the Golem functions as their conceptual starting point. Their main theme is the making of a Golem: to give life to inorganic matter through language / spoken incantation."
